Coming off a sixth-place performance at a rain-soaked Aztec Invitational, the San Diego State women's golf team hits the road for the first of two straight in-state tournaments on its 2009 spring schedule this Monday and Tuesday in Fresno, Calif. The Aztecs will be among 13 schools at the 54-hole tournament, which will be held at the par-72, 6,262-yard Copper River Country Club.
SDSU is competing in the event, formally named the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational, for the fourth consecutive season, placing 15th in 2006 and 16th in both 2007 and 2008. Seven of the Aztecs' opponents this year also played in last week's tournament in Chula Vista.
San Diego State head coach Felicia Brown will bring five golfers to the event including freshman Malin Enarsson, who tied for season in last week's opening tournament, and sophomore Samantha Roberts, who was the team's top finisher in Fresno a year ago with a 30th-place performance. Joining the duo are seniors Maki Kamimura, Jackie Kazarian and junior Heather Wilson.
Monday's action will feature a shotgun start, beginning at 8 a.m. PT. Teams will complete 36 holes in consecutive rounds on day one, before finishing out the event with 18 holes on Tuesday, also starting at 8 a.m. PT, but with set tee times.
