TUSCON, Ariz. - Second-round action at the Arizona Intercollegiate was suspended due to darkness Monday at the 6,739-yard, par-71 Arizona National Golf Club. San Diego State sophomore Matt Hoffenberg finds himself in fifth place on the individual leaderboard when play was stopped. The final three holes of the second round are scheduled to be completed Tuesday morning. SDSU is currently tied for third in the team standings with Tulsa at 4-over-par, just 6 strokes behind first-place Pepperdine (-2).

Hoffenberg started the spring season off on a high note, posting a first round 2-under-par to lead the Scarlet and Black. The Simi Valley, Calif. native walked off the course at 1-under-par through 14 holes.

Andrew Cooley opened up tournament play with a first-round score of 1-over-par 72. The freshman from New Haw, Surrey, England was able to offset a double-bogey on the par-4 10th hole with two birdies to maintain an even-par pace. He was able to move up one spot on the individual leaderboard and currently sits in a tie for 11th place.

Meanwhile, freshman Alex Kang (Oak Park, Calif.) rallied from a 77 in the first round to maintain an even-par pace during the afternoon to finish at 6-over through 14 holes. Completing first-round scoring for SDSU was senior David Palm (Landvetter, Sweden), who was tied for fifth position with a first-round 70, but lost ground the rest of the day and fell to 7-over.

Rounding out the day was sophomore Johan Carlsson, who was 4-under-par over the last five holes of play before darkness set in. The Gothenburg, Sweden product was a 5-over at one point during round two, but recovered nicely with birdies on 13 and 17, following up with an eagle on the par-5 18th hole.

The 54-hole Arizona Intercollegiate is slated to resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m. MST with the conclusion of the second round, followed by final round action. For live tournament scoring, please check out the live scoring link on GoAztecs.com.
