HONOLULU, HAWAII - San Diego State's women's tennis took the match against UC Irvine on Saturday at the University of Hawai'i Tennis Complex. The Aztecs improve to 4-0 on the season after defeating Hawai'i on Thursday.
SDSU took two out of three in doubles action beginning with second doubles Roxanne and Sierra Ellison as they defeated Stephanie Hammel and Heidi Kaloi of UC Irvine, 8-6. Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov dropped their match in third doubles against Ali Borowicz and Courtney Byron, 8-6. In first doubles Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk downed Clare Fermin and Rebecca Kwan, 9-8 (9-7).
As singles action got underway, San Diego State's Olivia Colman was the first to finish by defeating the Anteaters' Kwan, 6-2, 6-3, in fifth singles. In fourth singles Cadua dropped her second match of the day against Byron, 6-4, 6-1. Trunk took down Hammel, 7-5, 6-3, in first singles. In third singles, Yusupov dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision to Brooke Bartlett.
Roxanne Ellison picked up her second win of the day by taking the match against Kaloi, 6-3, 7-5, in sixth singles. Completing the win for the Aztecs was Bagshaw who defeated Fermin, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, in second singles.
After sweeping weekend action, SDSU will return home to begin a four-match homestand against Cal on Feb. 6.
