SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team is set to compete at the inaugural New Mexico Classic on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The one-day meet will feature eight teams, including 16th-ranked Stanford and old Western Athletic Conference foe Fresno State.
The Classic will get underway at 9 a.m. MT with All-Americans Decontee Kaye and Karoline Koehler, Shana Watson, Kai Wheeler, Julianne Alarcio and Thoraya Maronsey taking part in the long jump. Also beginning at 9 a.m. will be Laura Boggeln, Andrea Martinez, Jeanette McConnell, Tamara McMillan and Maria Rodriguez, who will all be competing in the shot put.
The running events will begin at 10:35 a.m. for San Diego State as Watson, Briana Johnson and Annimari Korte will all race in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles. Should any of three advance to the finals, they will run at 1:25 p.m. with the championship up for grabs.
The full day of competition will come to a close at approximately 3:50 p.m. with the running of the 4x400-meter relay.
Following the New Mexico Classic, SDSU will return to San Diego only to travel to Azusa, Calif., for the APU Indoor Qualifier on Feb. 14.
