FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The San Diego State track and field program posted 22 top-10 finishes on the final day of the indoor season's first meet at the Mountain T's Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona.
Junior Nicole Stone claimed the 400-meter championship, covering the distance in 54.80. It was a personal best for the native of Ontario, Calif., and was the fourth fastest indoor time in school history.
Behind the efforts of Stone, senior Decontee Kaye, sophomore Jessika Hornsby and senior Shana Solomon the San Diego State relay team finished the 4x400-meter relay in second place.
Three other Aztecs set career bests on the day. Sophomore Briana Johnson posted a time of 8.73 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles. She ran just off the pace in the finals, posting an 8.91 mark, to finish sixth. Senior Tamara McMillan posted a career best in the shot put with a throw of 41-8.50. She had a pair of top 10 finishes on the day, with a fifth place effort in the weight throw (54-4.75) and a ninth place throw in the shot. Sophomore Laura Boggeln also set a personal best with a 41-6.50 throw in the shot, good enough for a 10th place finish.
The Aztecs will be back in action next Saturday when they will participate in the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
