Honolulu, Hawaii - San Diego State's women's tennis team took down the Rainbow Wahine, 4-3, on Thursday, Jan. 29. With the victory the Aztecs improve their record to 3-0 on the season, while Hawai'i drops to (0-1). SDSU stays in Hawaii for a match against UC Irvine on Saturday.
SDSU took two out of three in doubles action with the team of Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk defeating Anja-Vanessa Peter and Melinda Wong, 8-5, at first-doubles. Also winners were Roxanne and Sierra Ellison who also downed their Hawai'i opponents, Alyssa Nafarrette and Natasha Zorec, by the same score of 8-5. Esther Cadua and Kathryn Kitts, however, lost a 8-3 decision to Sophie Kobuch and Aglae Van den Bergh, at third-doubles.
Taking victories from Hawai'i were the Aztecs' Milana Yusupov and Olivia Colman, at fourth and fifth-singles respectively. Holly Bagshaw walked away with her second victory of the day by defeating Natasha Zorec 6-2, 6-4 at second-singles.
The Aztecs and the Rainbow Wahine split the singles matches, each taking three. San Diego State's Julia Trunk wasn't able to get past Sophie Kobuch of Hawai'i losing 6-2, 6-3. Also defeated on Thursday in singles action were Esther Cadua and Sierra Ellison of SDSU.
San Diego State's match against the Anteaters Saturday will begin at 11 a.m. HT. The Aztecs will then begin a four-match homestand on Feb. 6 against Cal.
