SAN DIEGO - For the second straight year, Aztec women's basketball will team up with the San Diego County Office of Education to celebrate Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, Jan. 24, when SDSU plays host to BYU at Cox Arena at 2 p.m. Fans will get a chance to meet and greet student-athletes from some of the school's 11 women's athletic programs. The concourse outside Cox Arena will open at 12:30 p.m., with special pregame activities.
Saturday's contest will also be the Aztecs' 2009 NCAA Women's Basketball Pack the House Challenge game. SDSU will compete against all Division I schools and fellow Mountain West Conference members to "Pack the House" at a home game from October 17, 2008 to March 8, 2009.
A winner of the Pack the House from each of the 32 Division I conferences will be announced by the NCAA in March. Judging criteria includes marketing plan creativity and attendance figures, including a sellout or the largest percentage increase from the previous year's single-game record attendance. The NCAA will make a $500 donation to a non-profit organization (of each institution's choice and subject to approval by the NCAA) on behalf of each of the 32 winners.
Saturday is also Kids Free Day with a free general admission youth ticket (ages 3-14) for every $7 general admission adult ticket purchased. Reserve seats are also available for just $9 apiece. Individual game tickets may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 619-220-8497, visiting the Cox Arena Box Office or the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium (window E).
