SAN DIEGO - During the spring 2008 semester, San Diego State athletic teams performed admirably in the classroom as 13 of 18 Aztec programs achieved a team grade-point average of 2.81 or better. Of the 13 teams, six finished the semester with a GPA of 2.99 or better, one posted its best semester since at least the fall of 1999 and two others ended with their second-highest semester GPAs ever.

The SDSU women's tennis team finished the spring with the highest GPA of all Aztec squads coming in at 3.24 to mark its fifth straight semester with a GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Cross country had San Diego State's second-best GPA at 3.13, while the volleyball team accumulated a GPA of 3.09, its second consecutive semester of 3.00 or better and second-highest since fall 2003. Ranking right behind volleyball was women's golf, which at 3.08, finished with its best-ever GPA.

Rounding out the six teams with GPAs of 2.99 or higher were both softball and women's crew teams with the latter having three rowers named scholar-athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

The Aztec football team, meanwhile, posted its second-highest semester GPA since figures started being kept in fall 1999.

In June, a total of 52 San Diego State student-athletes were named to the Mountain West Conference all-academic team for the spring semester, while 36 were named MWC scholar-athletes for the 2007-08 academic year.
