San Diego State softball head coach Kathy Van Wyk has announced a 51-game spring schedule, highlighted by a two games each against 2008 Women's College World Series opponents UCLA and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Aztecs, who last year finished with their best record (44-17) in school history, will once again play host to three tournaments, including the 19th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic.

Of its 35 opponents, nine will be against teams who made the 2008 NCAA tournament over a span of 15 games. In addition, SDSU will play five top-25 RPI teams from a year ago.

San Diego State will begin its season on the road for the second consecutive year when it travels to Los Angeles, Calif., to compete in the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, hosted by UCLA. The Aztecs will face Indiana in their opener on Feb. 6 before meeting Cal Poly twice, Pacific and the host Bruins.

The following weekend (Feb. 12-15), SDSU will play host to the prestigious 19th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic. This year's classic will be stacked again as San Diego State will have to contend with Utah State, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, Washington and Long Beach. A season ago, Stanford (No. 12) and Long Beach State (No. 14) each earned national seeds in the tournament, while the Aztecs and Washington played in a thrilling 12-inning affair on March 20 that saw SDSU come away with a 9-5 victory.

San Diego State makes its first ever trip to Louisiana the following weekend when it travels to Lafayette for the Fifth Annual Mardi Gras Invitational. The Aztecs will play four games in The Pelican State, including one each against Connecticut and Kentucky, and two against the host Ragin' Cajuns. A year ago, Louisiana-Lafayette went 52-15 to advance to its fifth WCWS.

SDSU returns to Montezuma Mesa, beginning with a solo game against San Diego on Feb. 25. San Diego State will then meet 2007 NCAA tournament teams Oregon, Missouri and UCLA in the San Diego Classic I, before closing out the tournament against Santa Clara on March 1.

The next weekend, the Aztecs take a trip to Northern California to participate in the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic (March 6-8). There, SDSU will play Illinois State, Vermont, UC Davis, the host Cardinal and Penn State.

The Aztecs then begin a nine-game homestand on March 11 with a solo contest against South Dakota State. Along with USD, San Diego State will put on its final tournament of the year in the San Diego Classic II, beginning on March 12. Scheduled to play SDSU include Miami (OH), Oklahoma State, Northern Colorado, New Mexico State, Iowa State and Cal State Northridge.

SDSU next hosts Big 12 foe Texas Tech, before playing Cal State Fullerton in a home-and-home. On March 20, the Aztecs host the Titans before Cal State Fullerton returns the favor on March 21.

San Diego State will also play San Diego on April 1 at the USD Softball Complex for its final tune-up conference play begins. In 2009, the Aztecs will look for their fifth MWC crown in eight years.

SDSU will play each of the five teams in the conference three times to round out the season of regular season play. The Aztecs' only non-conference game in between MWC play is a home contest against UTEP on April 8.

Following league action, San Diego State will await a possible bid to the NCAA tournament.
