SAN DIEGO - San Diego State guard Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Conference Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Morris helped the Aztecs erase a five-point halftime deficit by scoring a game-high 26 points in a win over Loyola Marymount on Sunday. This is Morris' second career weekly honor and SDSU's first this season.

Against the Lions, Morris recorded 19 of her 26 points in the second half and also added a career-high eight steals, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. The junior posted a season-high eight assists, shot 57.9 percent from the field (11-for-19) and was perfect at the stripe.

The eight steals are the most by a player in the Mountain West Conference since 2007, tie for fourth in the league's history and are the most by an Aztec since Veronica Shaw also had eight in a win over Sacramento State in 2002.

With SDSU trailing by five points in the second half, Morris scored eight straight points, logged two steals and added a blocked shot in a span of only 1:13 to give the Aztecs the lead. She was 9-for-11 (81.8 percent) from the field in the second half.

For the year, Morris leads the league in steals with 3.25 per contest, while she ranks second on the team in scoring with 14.8 points per game, including two outings with 20 or more points.

San Diego State will take a break for the holidays, before playing host to the four-team San Diego Surf `N Slam, Dec. 28 and 30, at Cox Arena.
