PROVO, Utah (AP) - The Aztecs lost to No. 17 BYU today, in arguably the toughest game they have faced in three years. San Diego State is one of only 10 teams in the nation that had two top 15 teams in the current BCS ratings remaining on its schedule.
For BYU, Max Hall threw three touchdown passes and Austin Collie had his eighth straight 100-yard receiving game, which set a school record with its 18th straight home win by beating the Aztecs today.
The Cougars (9-1, 5-1) went unbeaten at home for the third straight season and stayed alive in their quest for a third straight Mountain West Conference title.
BYU scored the first 27 points, then after two field goals by San Diego State, Hall found Collie for two more touchdowns early in the fourth quarter against the injury-plagued Aztecs (1-9, 0-6).
With their fourth quarter touchdown, San Diego State extended its streak of scoring at least one touchdown to 24 consecutive games.
The SDSU defense had eight tackles for loss, its most in a MWC game this season. The Aztecs also matched a season-best with three sacks.
Aztec Tyler Campbell recorded a career-best in rushing yards with 41 yards on just four carries, and Ryan Lindley saw his career-best streak of consecutive passes without an interception end at 67 in the second quarter.
