WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - San Diego State's Jorge Rosales (Redwood City, Calif.) has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. The award is the first weekly honor for the senior and second conference accolade of the season for the Aztecs.
Rosales led SDSU to a pair of Pac-10 victories over the weekend. On Friday, Rosales made two saves before surrendering a late goal in the team's 2-1 win over Stanford.
On Sunday, Rosales made five stops to record his first solo shutout of the season (Rosales shared a shutout with Morgan Maestas earlier this year) in San Diego State's 1-0 triumph over seventh-ranked California. Rosales faced 20 shots and eight corner kicks, while having to back a team that played a man down for the final 49:52 of the match.
On the season, Rosales is 3-3-2 with a 1.03 goals against average and 83.7 save percentage in 696:06. Rosales leads the Pac-10 in save percentage and saves per game (5.12), and is third in goals against average. In Pac-10 matches only, Rosales is first in saves per game (5.50), second in save percentage (84.6) and third in GAA (0.99).
The Aztecs continue their four-game road trip to close out the season Sunday (1 p.m.) against Cal State Bakersfield.
