San Diego State begins play in the Mountain West Conference tournament on Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nev. The Aztecs (6-9-3), who finished conference play with a 2-4-1 record, earned the No. 6 seed and will square off against third-seeded TCU (13-3-2, 4-2-1 MWC) at noon. The other game will feature fourth-seeded New Mexico and fifth-seeded UNLV. Brigham Young and Utah earned the first and second seeds, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY VS. TCU
San Diego State leads in its all-time series with TCU by a 4-2 count. The Aztecs just played the Horned Frogs on Friday, falling 2-1 in San Diego. SDSU has won the only meeting between the two schools at a neutral setting, shutting TCU out, 6-0, on Nov. 4, 1998, in Provo, Utah.
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
TCU (13-3-2; 4-2-1 MWC) is coming off its 2-1 victory over San Diego State on Friday. The Frogs came away with the win, despite being outshot, 18-14, and outcornered, 12-4. Nikki Wilbur and Lizzy Karoly each scored for TCU, while Kelsey Walters made eight saves in 90 minutes.
The Horned Frogs lead the league in shots per game (21.44), goals per game (2.44), assists per game (2.28), fewest goals allowed per game (0.78), points per game (7.17) and goals against average (0.74).
Individually, Jordan Calhoun leads the MWC in points (30) and goals (14), while Karoly is third (26 and 10) in both categories. Walters ranks second in the conference with a 0.77 goals against average.
Dan Abdalla is in his fourth year at the helm of the Horned Frogs' women's soccer program. Abdalla, who is just the second head coach in the team's 19 years of existence, has posted a 33-33-6 record while at TCU.
