San Diego State Plays Host to Old Western Athletic Conference Foe Fresno State on Saturday
San Diego State will play the final game of a three-game season-opening homestand on Saturday afternoon as long-time foe Fresno State invades Montezuma Mesa. Tipoff for the contest is set for 1:05 p.m. at Cox Arena.
The Aztecs (1-1) look to rebound from a crushing 59-52 defeat at the hands of 15th-ranked Arizona State last Tuesday at home. Fresno State, meanwhile, comes into the game with a 1-1 record and looking to rebound as well after falling at Saint Mary's, 99-85.
Game Tidbits:
* San Diego State is looking to avoid losing two straight at home for the first time since doing so against Air Force (2/28/05) and New Mexico (2/26/05) during the 2004-05 season. That streak spans 48 games.
* The Aztecs will also be looking to prevent a two-game non-conference home losing streak for the first time since 2004-05 when they fell to Saint Mary's (12/14/04) and California (12/11/04).
* SDSU will be in search of its third consecutive win the series. The last time the Aztecs won three straight over Fresno State, one would have to go back to 1974-75 when SDSU swept the series in 1974 and took the first game of the series in 1975. Since that win in `75, the two schools have played 28 times.
* San Diego State has won four straight over current members of the Western Athletic Conference and five in a row in games played at home. Oddly enough, the Aztecs' last defeat at home to a WAC team occurred on Feb. 25, 1999, against Fresno State, 95-84.
