STANFORD, Calif. - The San Diego State cross country team had its top five runners establish personal records at the NCAA West Regionals at Stanford Golf Course on Saturday morning. Senior co-captain Kristin Glen led the way for the fifth straight race as she closed out her Aztec cross country career.
"I am pleased with how we ran today," said assistant coach Jennifer Nanista. "Our top five athletes set personal records, saved their best for last and they came out and did what they needed to do."
Glen completed the 6,000-meter course in personal-record fashion by crossing the finish line in 22 minutes, 2.73 seconds. Her effort eclipsed her previous-best time of 22:52.00 set last season.
Junior Darien Buc finished behind Glen after she navigated the course in 23:04.38. Buc's performance erased her old PR of 23:39.80 accomplished earlier this season at the Triton Classic.
Coming in behind the aforementioned duo was the sophomore pair of Michelle Martinez and Sara Beyers. Martinez set a lifetime best with her time of 23:14.00, while Beyers clocked in with a personal-record time of 23:42.13. Going into the race, Martinez and Beyers owned PRs of 23:45.00 and 24:04.00, respectively.
The fifth member of the quintet to post a personal record was Sara Cunningham. The junior finished with a time of 24:01.00, erasing her old PR of 24:19.00 set in her last outing at the Mountain West Conference Championships at Mission Bay Park.
Junior Rachel Williams turned in a performance of 24:49.49 and senior co-captain Anne Vieira clocked in at 25:07.58 to round out the San Diego State contingent.
The Aztecs finished the 206-person field and 30-team meet in 27th place with 757 points.
