KAHUKU, Hawaii -
The San Diego State men's golf team finds itself in a tie for first place through two rounds of the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate Tuesday at the par-72, 6,535-yard Fazio Course in Kahuku, Hawaii. The Aztecs led by three strokes over Texas through 18 holes on Monday, but were unable to match their first round score of 277, logging a 291 to currently sit in a tie atop the leaderboard with fellow conference member UNLV at 8-under 568.
Aztec Johan Carlsson moved from sixth place into a tie for first with a second round 69. Carlsson is tied with Hawaii's Thomas Kua at 7-under 137. Round one leader, SDSU's Andrew Cooley, dropped all the way to seventh place after carding a 74, but is still under par for the tournament at 4-under 140.
Carlsson and Cooley are the only Aztecs in the top 20, as sophomore Matt Hoffenberg is 23rd at even-par 144 and freshmen J.J. Spaun (147) and Alex Kang (149) are 46th and 56th, respectively.
San Diego State will look to bounce back and claim its first tournament title in its final round of the fall campaign Wednesday morning. The Aztecs will tee-off with UNLV and Texas at the 10th hole beginning at 9 a.m. HT.
