SALT LAKE CITY - Utah scored three times in five minutes late in the second half to run away with a 4-1 victory over the San Diego State women's soccer team on Thursday evening at Ute Field. With the loss, the Aztecs fall to 4-7-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the Mountain West Conference.

Utah (5-7-2; 1-1-0 MWC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Katy Reineke found the back of the net just over two minutes into the game. The Utes then had a chance to go up by two as they were awarded a penalty kick at the 19:24 mark, but Aztec goalkeeper Aubree Southwick made a great move to her left to deny Reineke her second goal of the night.

The Scarlet and Black was out shot 10-7 in the first half and was unable to convert on three corner kick opportunities, but Southwick kept SDSU within striking distance as she matched her season-high saves total with six stops in just the first 45 minutes of action.

The Aztecs finally broke through in the 76th minute to tie the game at one when sophomore Cat Walker placed the ball past diving Ute goalie, Hannah Turpen, and into the lower right corner on a give-and-go play from junior Heather Vandevanter.

The Utes quickly responded, however, as they regained the lead just 2:47 later when Kelly Isleib scored on a rebound off her own penalty shot that hit the crossbar. Southwick was shaken up on the original play and was replaced by senior Christi Yount with 13:11 left in the match.

Utah then went on to score two more goals before the end of the game for the final 4-1 margin.

SDSU finished the night with 15 shots and was paced by Walker, who tallied four attempts and her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Southwick, meanwhile, compiled a season-best nine saves in 78 minutes of action.

Reineke led the Ute attack with 10 of the team's 20 shot attempts and a pair of goals, while Isleib played a part in all four of the home team's points, scoring once and recording three assists.

San Diego State will look for its first MWC win on Saturday (Oct. 11) when it heads to Provo, Utah, for a 7 p.m. (PST) match against Brigham Young.
