FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Backup quarterback Marcus Jackson rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns in his first start this season to help TCU defeat San Diego State 41-7 on Saturday.

Getting the start after Andy Dalton injured his right knee in a loss to top-ranked Oklahoma last weekend, Jackson went 10-of-19 for 115 yards and had scoring runs of 9 and 3 yards.

Jackson, a junior, also threw a touchdown pass just before halftime that gave TCU (5-1, 2-0 Mountain West) a 20-0 lead.

San Diego State (1-4, 0-1) lost starting QB Ryan Lindley to a right shoulder injury in the second quarter. Lindley, who passed for 433 yards in a win over Idaho last week, was wearing a sling on the sideline.

Drew Westling took over for Lindley and was 6-of-17 for 61 yards.

Mekell Wesley had a touchdown run for the Aztecs.

San Diego State had only 85 yards of offense and four first downs.

Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson said on Friday that Dalton would be available to play in an emergency. Jackson and TCU's defense made sure that wasn't needed.

Ross Evans kicked field goals of 25 and 42 yards to give TCU a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Ryan Christian's 10-yard TD run extended the lead to 13-0, and Jackson threw a 3-yard TD pass to Shae Reagan just before halftime to put the Horned Frogs on top 20-0.

Jackson has thrown all three of TCU's touchdown passes this season.

Jackson's only miscue came early in the third quarter. San Diego State's Russell Allen recovered Jackson's fumble at the TCU 1.

Wesley punched it in for a 2-yard scoring run two plays later.

Jackson had a 9-yard TD run in the third. Jackson was about to dive when he collided with linebacker Andrew Preston, which sent Jackson airborne into the end zone.

TCU's Aaron Brown rushed for 66 yards and Joseph Turner added 63 as the Horned Frogs had a season-high 383 yards on the ground.

The Aztecs had minus-13 yards rushing against TCU, which came in leading the nation in run defense.
