San Diego State took advantage of its No. 1 seed and ran the table at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Tournament at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. The Aztecs, with targets on their backs, took everyone's best shot and was able to get by seventh-seeded Wyoming in the championship game, 69-64, in overtime to become the first MWC school to win the league tournament twice.

Why it was memorable: San Diego State, the regular-season Mountain West champions, entered the conference championships as the field's top seed for the first time in school history. In order to earn an automatic NCAA Tournament bid, SDSU would not only have to win its third game in three days, but it was also looking to become just the second school in MWC history to win the tournament as the No. 1 seed and first since 2000.

If all of that wasn't enough pressure, the Aztecs were also looking to set a school record for victories in a Division I season.

From the opening tip, SDSU looked up to the challenge as it raced to a seven-point lead five minutes into the game. Wyoming, however, showed the resiliency it demonstrated in its first two conference-tournament outings and got within one point, 32-31, as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Coming out of the locker room, the Aztecs increased its lead to six in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Cowboys hung around and took a one-point lead with 2:44 to go in regulation. Following a tip in by Kyle Spain with 2:25 left and a free throw by Richie Williams with 16 seconds on the clock and SDSU clinging to a two-point lead, Wyoming's Brad Jones hit both of his free throws with seven seconds left to tie the game at 56. As time wound down, Spain had a shot to win the game underneath the basket, but it was off the mark sending the final into OT.

In the extra session, Wyoming led by as many as four points with just over two minutes to play, but six consecutive points by MWC player of the year Brandon Heath put SDSU ahead for good and three Spain free throws in the final 12 seconds helped secure the five-point victory for San Diego State.

Heath finished with a game-high tying 22 points, while tournament MVP Marcus Slaughter added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Spain chipped in with 11 points and 12 boards.
