SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team (4-6-1 overall; 0-1 MWC) fell to UNLV, 2-1, in its Mountain West Conference opener on Friday afternoon. It was the Aztecs' first home loss of the season as they saw their seven-match winning streak at SDSU Sports Deck come to an end.

San Diego State took a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the game thanks to freshman Megan McQueeny's first collegiate goal. The Rohnert Park, Calif., native drove down the right side of the field and drilled the ball into the left corner from 20 yards out.

UNLV (9-3-1 overall; 1-0 MWC) then started to put pressure on the Aztec defense and finally broke through at the 16:07 mark when Ashleigh Shoughro found the back of the net on a dish from Niki Connolly.

After the two early goals, both teams stepped up their play on the defensive end as the Aztecs and Rebels went into halftime tied at one.

The physical play continued after the break, but UNLV was able to take the lead in the 59th minute. Haley Partridge scored the game-winner, taking a pass from Shoughro and burying it into the left side netting. SDSU had several chances to even the score in the remaining 30:29 of regulation, but came up empty-handed on its final three shot attempts.

In a very evenly played match, the Rebels outshot the Aztecs, 9-7, while both teams had four shots on goal. McQueeny led SDSU with two shots, both on target, while five other Aztecs had one attempt each.

San Diego State will return to the Sports Deck on Sunday, Oct. 5, when it takes on Loyola Marymount in its final non-conference game of the season. Kickoff is slated for noon.
