ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The San Diego State women's soccer team scored first but was unable to hold on to its lead as it settled for a 1-1 tie against New Mexico at the UNM Soccer Complex on Friday evening.

SDSU is now 6-8-3 overall and 2-3-1 in Mountain West Conference action, while the Lobos sit at 7-5-5 overall, 2-3-1 MWC.

The Scarlet and Black, which outscored its opponents 11-0 last weekend, continued its aggressive offensive play early in the match with sophomore Cat Walker and senior Jillian Riker both firing off a shot in the first 10 minutes of action. Walker eventually gave the Aztecs a 1-0 lead at the 21:34 mark when she scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season on her second attempt of the evening. The Folsom, Calif., native has recorded a point in three straight games.

New Mexico had its chance to get on the board before the end of the half, but came up empty-handed as SDSU was able to hold off three Lobo shots in the final eight minutes of the period to maintain its one-goal advantage at the break.

UNM then took control early in the second half and evened the score at one when Alexis Ball struck in the 57th minute. The goal, which broke Aztec senior goalkeeper Christi Yount's 235 minute scoreless streak, was enough to force the extra period as neither team was able to convert before the end of regulation.

SDSU had perhaps its best chance to win the game at the 102:44 mark but junior Jessica Gordon's shot from the left wing hit the crossbar. Yount gave the Scarlet and Black an extra boost on defense as she notched three of her five saves in overtime.

The Lobos held a 22-12 advantage in attempts, but both teams totaled six shots on goal. Walker led the Aztec attack with five shots, while senior Alicia Piz added two shots on goal. New Mexico's Ball, meanwhile, compiled a game-high nine attempts.

San Diego State will return to the SDSU Sports Deck on Friday, Oct. 31, when it takes on TCU at 3 p.m. (PST) in its regular-season finale. Aztec seniors Tiphanie Elliott, Alicia Piz, Jillian Riker, Leann Sgobba and Christi Yount will be honored before the game.
