COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore midfielder Cat Walker and senior goalkeeper Christi Yount have been named the Mountain West Conference women's soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, the league office announced Monday.

Both Walker and Yount earned their first career weekly awards after leading SDSU to a pair of MWC victories over the weekend. The Aztecs were dominant on both sides of the ball, defeating Air Force 7-0, before coming back two days later to down Wyoming, 4-0.

Walker, who shared the offensive player of the week honors with UNLV's Ashleigh Shoughro, scored three goals and added an assist for seven points on the weekend. The Folsom, Calif., native recorded her first career hat trick in the 7-0 win over Air Force. The last time an Aztec scored three times in one game was when Kim Castellanos accomplished the feat in 2000. Walker also contributed against Wyoming as she set up senior Jillian Riker's goal to give the Scarlet and Black a 2-0 lead.

On the season, Walker leads San Diego State with 32 shot attempts, 18 points and eight goals.

Yount, meanwhile, anchored an Aztec defense that did not allow any goals over the weekend. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native recorded her first two shutouts of the 2008 campaign in just her second and third starts of the year. Yount had four saves while facing six shots against Air Force, before compiling a game-high five stops vs. Wyoming.

Yount has posted a 2-1-1 record this year with a team-leading 1.30 goals against average and .773 save percentage.

San Diego State (6-8-2; 2-3-0 MWC) returns to action on Friday, Oct. 24, when it heads to New Mexico for a 4:30 p.m. PT showdown with the Lobos.
