SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team opens its 2008 fall season on Sunday at the 44th annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. The Aztecs will send their varsity eight crew to compete in the Championship Eight race, which is the final event of the two-day competition, set to begin at 4:23 p.m. ET (1:23 p.m. PT) on the Charles River.

Scheduled to row for the scarlet and black on the three-mile course are seniors Allison Hardin (stroke) and Robin Lauber (three), juniors Jaime Hinton (seven), Casi Boyle (six), Anna Ohrstrom (four), Kelsey Anderson (two), and Mary Anne Hinman (bow), sophomore Jenna Wood (five) along with freshman coxswain Vanessa Jones. Junior Jessica Teora will serve as an extra rower if needed.

The Head of the Charles is one of the largest and most competitive fall races in rowing with over 7,500 athletes scheduled to compete in the two-day regatta. Coxswains are challenged through sharp turns and narrow bridges along the three-mile course.

The Aztecs will compete against the national teams representing the United States, Canada, Great Britain and the Netherlands, as well as Yale, the 2008 NCAA varsity eight champions, and Brown, the 2008 NCAA team champions. Stanford and Washington are the only other West Coast schools to compete in this regatta.

SDSU last appeared at the Head of the Charles in 2005, when it placed 34th out of 47 boats. In 2004, the Aztecs rowed in the Collegiate Eight event, finishing fifth of 50 schools.
