SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Nick Cardenas (Thornton, Colo.) has been honored by two websites for his play over the weekend. Cardenas was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer.com Men's Team of the Week for his play in helping the Aztecs to two crucial road results in Pac-10 action.

On Friday at Stanford, Cardenas, a M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Award candidate, played all 90 minutes and controlled SDSU's box, winning header after header. Cardenas helped San Diego State limit the Cardinal to just two shots on net.

On Sunday at No. 5 California, Cardenas played all 110 minutes in the back, organizing a line which allowed just four shots on goal in a 1-1, double-overtime tie.

The four points moved the Aztecs into a tie for second place in the Pac-10 with five points and a 1-0-2 record. However, SDSU has played one less game then fellow runner-up Cal, and is the only team yet to play a home league match.

Cardenas was also named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Oct. 30, 2006, and the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week on Sept. 17, 2007.

San Diego State finally returns to The Mesa this weekend for games against Oregon State (4 p.m. Friday) and first-place Washington (noon Sunday).
