SDSU Continues Fall Slate In Colorado
The San Diego State women's golf team returns to the road early next week for the 54-hole 2008 Heather Farr/CU Memorial Invitational in Broomfield, Colo. The Aztecs are playing in the Heather Farr Invite for the second year in a row and the fourth time overall in the 11-year history of the event, which will be played at the par-72, 6,211-yard Omni Interlocken Golf Club.
The tournament includes 54 holes of golf with two rounds Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days begin at 8:30 a.m. MT with a shotgun start and live scoring will be available via a link on the front page of goaztecs.com.
The Aztecs are coming off a 13th-place finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational last weekend, where SDSU took on a field of four schools ranked in the top 30 nationally. This week, the Aztecs will be joined by 19 other teams, including No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 27 and host Colorado, No. 31 Georgia State and No. 44 Long Beach State. SDSU is one of three MWC schools to compete next week.
The Aztecs placed 10th at last year's Heather Farr Invite and won the 2000 edition behind the play of medalist Joanne Clingan.
Two Aztecs To Make Their 2008-09 Debuts
Two Aztec veterans will make their season debuts at the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational next week, including sophomore Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and junior Petra Cole (San Diego, Calif.). The twosome will be joined by senior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.), sophomore Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) and freshmen Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), who each played last weekend.
Kamimura is San Diego State's top returning player from last year's squad that traveled to Colorado, while then freshman Roberts was also on the trip.
Arcala finished second on the team in fall season stroke average a year ago in three tournaments. Cole was a member of last year's MWC championship squad and finished as high as 11th individually at a tournament in 2007-08.
Enarsson is coming off a solid Aztec debut of her own, tying for 18th place with the best round of the tournament with a 68 over the final 18 holes in Albuquerque last Saturday.
