The San Diego State women's golf team is tied with two other schools for 13th place after 18 holes at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Thursday in Albuquerque, N.M. The Aztecs posted a 22-over 314 to tie with both Hawai'i and UTEP at the par-73, 6,167-yard University of New Mexico Golf Course.

"I think we have better golf in us," said SDSU head coach Felicia Brown. "Maki (Kamimura) played well, going 3-under through the final 13 holes, after starting 5-over. She has some experience under her belt and she was able to stay patient and knew the right thing would happen. Malin (Enarsson) also played fairly solidly."

SDSU was led by senior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.), who fired a first-round 75 to tie for 24th on the individual leaderboard. Kamimura rallied after a 5-over start on the first five holes with four birdies, including on a pair of par 5s. She was joined in the top 40 by true freshman Malin Enarsson (Gothenburd, Sweden), who was at 1-over through the first nine holes, before ending up at 4-over on the day with a 77.

Junior Ashley Wood (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) and sophomore Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) are tied for 73rd place with first-round scores of 81, while another true freshman Casey McIntosh (Rancho Mirage, Calif.) is two strokes behind them with an 83 in her first 18 holes with the Aztecs.

Pepperdine, which entered the tournament ranked eighth nationally, leads the team race by two strokes over host New Mexico with a 292. The Waves' Jayvie Agojo is atop the individual leaderboard along with Colorado State's Kasey Claussen at 2-under par 71.

San Diego State will be paired with Hawai'i and UTEP for the second round Friday morning, teeing off from the 10th hole beginning at 8:40 a.m. MT.
