PORTLAND, Ore. - San Diego State women's soccer was blanked for the first time this season as the Aztecs dropped a 2-0 decision to an undefeated University of Washington team (5-0) Friday afternoon at the Nike Portland Invitational. With the loss, the Scarlet and Black falls to 2-3-1 on the season.

UW held an 11-7 advantage in shots attempts and connected on two of its four shots on goal, while SDSU was unable to convert on any of its three shots on goal.

After several unsuccessful attempts, the Huskies eventually opened the scoring when Alex Kirk found the back of the net on a through pass from Veronica Perez at the 20:21 mark.

The Aztecs had a chance to even the match late in the half with freshman Tiffany Hurst and junior Jessica Gordon both recording a shot on goal within a two-minute span, but UW goalkeeper Alex Phillips came away with a pair of saves, giving the Huskies a 1-0 halftime lead.

As SDSU's offense struggled to gain momentum with just two shot attempts in the second half, Washington was able to put the game out of reach when Kate Deines scored her second goal of the season in the 77th minute.

Hurst and Gordon led the Aztecs with two shots each, while Alicia Piz, Heather Vandevanter and Cat Walker all had one attempt. Aubree Southwick played the entire 90 minutes in front of the net for the Scarlet and Black.

San Diego State will continue tournament play at the Nike Portland Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 14, when it takes on host and sixth-ranked Portland at 2:30 p.m. PT.
