Meet The Aztecs: Q&A With Alec JohnsonMeet The Aztecs: Q&A With Alec Johnson

Aug. 20, 2008

SAN DIEGO - The 14th in a daily series during fall camp, get to know another Aztec newcomer. Today, a conversation with freshman offensive lineman Alec Johnson (Denver, Colo.).

GoAztecs.com: What have been your overall impressions of camp so far?
Johnson:
It's been pretty good. It's lot harder than I was expecting, but I feel good about Camp Pendleton and the two weeks that we've been back.

GoAztecs.com: How has the transition from high school to your workouts at SDSU been?
Johnson:
It's been a big transition. I didn't have two-a-days in high school. Coming here and having double days is kind of a shock, but it's good.

GoAztecs.com: How was your experience at Family Day?
Johnson:
I didn't have any family in attendance because I'm from Denver and it's kind of far. But, it was cool having dinner on the field and playing at Qualcomm for the first time. I liked it a lot.

GoAztecs.com: Why did you choose SDSU?
Johnson:
I loved my visit. I loved everything about it and just had a good feel about this place.

GoAztecs.com: What have the coaches been working on with you the most?
Johnson:
Pretty much just my footwork and getting to know the offense. I'm working on a lot of technique and getting the plays down is also a big thing right now.

GoAztecs.com: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Johnson:
I like to play other sports, play some video games and play some music.

GoAztecs.com: What other sports do you play?
Johnson:
I played baseball and basketball in high school.

GoAztecs.com: Why did you choose to stick with football?
Johnson:
My body type. I realized I wasn't really built for baseball.

GoAztecs.com: What type of music do you listen to?
Johnson:
I listen to everything except for country. I like rap, rock, oldies...pretty much everything.

GoAztecs.com: Has it been helpful having high school teammate Jimmy Miller here to go through camp with?
Johnson:
Yeah, it's nice having someone to talk to who is going through the same things.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite NFL team?
Johnson:
Not really. I grew up liking Denver but it's kind of faded now.

GoAztecs.com: What are you looking forward to most about the home opener against Cal Poly (Aug. 30)?
Johnson:
I'm just getting ready for a game and playing in Qualcomm for real. I think it will be awesome and I'm excited.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite pro football player?
Johnson:
I like Olin Kreutz of the Bears because he plays center and he's a beast.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have any superstitions?
Johnson:
Not really. If I do get one I try to break it because I'm not really that superstitious.

GoAztecs.com: Do you know what you want to major in at SDSU?
Johnson:
No. I was thinking business, but I'm not really sure yet.

Stay tuned for another question and answer session with freshman RB Ramon Judkins later today.
