The seventh in a daily series during fall training camp, get to know freshman DE J.J. Autele
GoAztecs.com: Why did you choose San Diego State?
Autele: Because I wanted to leave home and I liked the area. And it was the closest thing to Hawaii on the mainland.
GoAztecs.com: What do you think of training camp so far?
Autele: It's pretty hard, but everyone's been cool. I've been learning a lot of different things.
GoAztecs.com: How do these practices compare to high school?
Autele: Everyone's bigger, and the tempo is a lot faster. Also, everything is more structured and they seem longer.
GoAztecs.com: How was your experience at Camp Pendleton?
Autele: It was a mind opener. It makes you grateful for everything that we have now. It was a good experience.
Go Aztecs.com: What do you plan to major in at San Diego State?
Autele: I `m interested in studying psychology.
GoAztecs.com: What is your most memorable football moment from high school?
Autele: Playing in the high school all-star game in Hawaii.
GoAztecs.com: Did you compete in other sports in high school?
Autele: I wrestled in ninth and 10th grade at both 171 and 185 pounds.
GoAztecs.com: What has defensive line coach Mike Nelson been working with you on the most?
Autele: Pass rushing.
GoAztecs.com: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
Autele: To learn as much as I can, do my best and hopefully play.
GoAztecs.com: Who did you look up to as a football player?
Autele: When I was a sophomore in high school, I looked up to the seniors. They were good role models and they really brought the younger guys along.
