Aug. 12, 2008

SAN DIEGO - The sixth in a daily series during fall camp, get to know another Aztec newcomer. Today, a conversation with freshman linebacker Rob Andrews (Pleasanton, Calif.).

GoAztecs.com: How has your experience at camp been so far?
Andrews:
It's been really good. Coming from the Bay Area down to (San Diego) has been a huge change, but all of the seniors have taken me under their wing. We have two more weeks until the season opener against Cal Poly, so we're just trying to get the team ready.

GoAztecs.com: What have you been working on so far during camp?
Andrews:
We've been working a lot on footwork, form tackling for the defense and just staying in shape.

GoAztecs.com: If you weren't playing football, what sport would you be playing?
Andrews:
I played lacrosse in high school, so that is probably what I would be playing in college.

GoAztecs.com: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Andrews:
I like to do ultimate sports like wakeboarding and snowboarding. I also like to go fishing.

GoAztecs.com: Why did you choose San Diego State?
Andrews:
There are so many great things here in San Diego, including the weather and the chance to play for a Division I football team. It's just a fun place to be.

GoAztecs.com: What was your most memorable high school moment?
Andrews:
My most memorable high school moment was when we beat our cross-town rivals three years in a row. Also, the last time we played them I scored three touchdowns.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have any relatives who played sports competitively?
Andrews:
I have two older sisters who play college sports. One, who graduated from Cal this past year, played lacrosse and the other is a junior who plays soccer at Cal Poly.

GoAztecs.com: How did you get started in football?
Andrews:
I've played football since I was about eight years old and have just taken it up to the next level every time.

GoAztecs.com: What are you looking forward to most with Family Day coming up on Saturday (Aug. 16)?
Andrews:
It will be nice to see my parents again. I haven't seen them in a couple weeks, and they will get to watch me play. It will be a good experience.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite NFL team?
Andrews:
I'm a 49er fan.

GoAztecs.com: Who did you look up to when you were growing up?
Andrews:
I looked up to my dad; he was one of my role models. Also my high school coach really took me under his wing and helped me with recruiting and everything else.

GoAztecs.com: What type of music do you listen to?
Andrews:
I'm a country guy but I like pretty much everything.
