OCEANSIDE, Calif. - The San Diego State football team completed its second workout of 2008 fall camp on Wednesday afternoon in Oceanside, Calif. The Aztecs' two and a half hour practice was their second and final one at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
"This has been a great experience," head coach Chuck Long said. "Our guys have enjoyed being around the Marines and we hope vice versa. It has been a great eye-opening experience for our team."
"Being around the military and seeing their leadership and team building activities has been good for us," senior linebacker Russell Allen said. "I think starting off a camp like this is a great way to build a foundation. This can carry through the whole season."
One of the day's highlights was the return to practice of senior tight end Eric Miclot (Oceanside, Calif.). Miclot, who was held out of Tuesday's first workout due to illness, missed the last two seasons after suffering a devastating knee injury during the first scrimmage of 2006 spring drills. The Vista High School graduate had played 21 games his first two seasons, including nine as a true freshman in 2004.
"I think (Eric) is going to end up being a great story for us," Long said. "He is not all the way back yet. But I am really optimistic about Eric being able to contribute for this team. It was good to see him out on the field."
The Aztecs will return to SDSU on Thursday morning for the team's first on-campus practice later in the day.
