SAN DIEGO -
2008 San Diego State Cross Country Schedule in PDF Format
San Diego State cross country coach Jennifer Nanista announced the Aztecs' 2008 schedule Tuesday afternoon. SDSU will compete in seven regular-season meets, including the Aztec Invitational, before playing host to the Mountain West Conference Championships at Mission Bay.
SDSU will open the campaign in Orange County at the Fullerton Season Opener on Aug. 30 and then have a week off prior to running of the 64th annual Aztec Invitational in San Diego at historic Balboa Park.
The Aztec Invite will represent the first of three straight weeks of competition for San Diego State as it will then travel across the Pacific Ocean the following weekend to compete in the Big Wave Invitational in Hawaii on Sept. 20. After their trip to the nation's 50th state, the Aztecs will split their squad, with the `A' team competing at the Stanford Invitational (Palo Alto, Calif.) and the `B' group making the trip to Riverside, Calif., for the UC Riverside Invitational. Both meets are set for Sept. 27.
After another bye week, San Diego State will start up again on Oct. 11 when it races in the Triton Classic at nearby UC San Diego. In a final tune-up for the conference meet, SDSU will travel to Northern California for the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif.
On Nov. 1, the Aztecs will welcome the other eight Mountain West institutions to San Diego as they will play host to the MWC Championships. Last year, SDSU was to host the league meet, but wildfires in San Diego County forced the conference to move the championships to Albuquerque, N.M.
Two weeks later, San Diego State will make a return trip to Palo Alto to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championships on Nov. 15, with an NCAA Championship berth at stake. The national meet is slated for Nov. 24 in Terre Haute, Ind.
