SAN DIEGO -
SDSU's Spring 2008 MWC All-Academic Honorees in PDF Format
A total of 52 San Diego State student-athletes from 10 different spring sports have been named to the Mountain West Conference all-academic team for the 2008 spring semester. It is the sixth consecutive year that at least 30 Aztecs have been recognized by the league for classroom accomplishments.
In order to be selected, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at SDSU while earning a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor on their respective teams.
The Aztec track and field squad had the largest group of honorees with 15 selections overall, highlighted by sophomore Stephanie Bagan (Granite Bay, Calif.), who garnered All-America accolades for the second time this season after finishing second in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 13. Earlier in the year, Bagan received the same distinction following her eighth-place showing at the NCAA indoor meet.
Other SDSU student-athletes honored include two-time PING All-American and 2008 MWC golfer of the year Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.), Matan Shitrit (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Esther Cadua (San Diego, Calif.), who were all-conference singles selections in men's and women's tennis, respectively, and baseball's Garett Green (Anaheim Hills, Calif.), who was a 30th-round choice by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the annual Major League Draft earlier this month.
