SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior water polo player Becca Ur (Lompoc, Calif.), who recently completed her Aztec career, has been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII women's at-large second team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Ur, who boasts a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average in biology, was one of 12 student-athletes from 11 different schools tabbed to the second team.

Ur helped lead the Aztecs to back-to-back NCAA championship appearances, the first in school history, including a fifth-place performance this season. She ended her career second in the school record book with 249 ejections drawn and eighth with 83 assists, while her 59 helpers in 2008 rank second on the single-season charts. A two-time team captain, Ur made 111 consecutive starts, including all 38 this past season, while posting a squad-best 59 assists and 54 steals.

A three-time MPSF all-academic pick, she garnered the Aztec Award at last month's 14th annual San Diego State Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet, which is given to one female student-athlete who has demonstrated excellence in academics and athletics, as well as outstanding leadership and character.

To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be a significant contributor to the team, and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII is comprised of all NCAA Division I schools from California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Utah.
