SAN DIEGO - Junior Esther Cadua (San Diego, Calif./Faithful Ambassadors Bible Baptist Academy) has won the 2008 West Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The award comes after Cadua earned her first career all-Mountain West Conference honor two weeks ago.

Cadua finished the 2008 campaign with a singles record of 23-11, playing primarily at the No. 4 position. Her 23 wins is tied for eighth on the SDSU single-season charts, while she is 12th all-time with 61 career victories. Cadua also posted a team-high 15 doubles wins this season.

Cadua becomes the third San Diego State player to win the award in six years. Katja Karrento won the award in 2003, while Indra Erichsen also accomplished the feat in 2005.

According to the ITA, the Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship is awarded to a collegiate women's tennis player who displays dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis.
