LOS ANGELES - San Diego State junior Michele Dannhausen won the javelin throw and senior Joanna Burley matched her personal record in the pole vault at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday. The meet was the last one of the season for the Aztecs prior to the 2008 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, beginning on Wednesday.

Dannhausen won the javelin with a throw of 125 feet, 10 inches, to finish ahead of the 11 other competitors in the field. She outdistanced Jennifer Esparza of La Verne, who finished in second place, by 3 feet, 8 inches.

In the pole vault, Burley finished in a tie for second place with a clearance of 12-2.00. Her effort matched her personal record established earlier this season at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 5.

SDSU had three Aztecs advance to the finals of the discus throw with Dannhausen leading the way with her fourth-place performance of 142-00. Coming in sixth was junior Tamara McMillan after she threw 135-2 and classmate Andrea Martinez posted an eighth-place heave of 133-11.

Freshman Laura Boggeln, meanwhile, finished in seventh in the finals of the shot put with a toss of 40-0.00.

San Diego State returns to the track on Wednesday as it will vie for its second MWC outdoor championship. The league meet starts on Wednesday and runs through Saturday at TCU.
