COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Junior Esther Cadua (San Diego, Calif./Faithful Ambassadors Bible Baptist Academy) garnered all-Mountain West Conference women's tennis accolades the league office announced Wednesday evening. Cadua was recognized by the conference's head coaches for her performance in singles play.
Cadua earned her first all-MWC singles award after playing most of the season at the No. 4 position. She compiled a team-leading 23 overall victories and posted a 16-7 record in dual-match play. Even more impressive, Cadua finished the 2008 MWC campaign with a 7-1 mark. The San Diego, Calif., native put together a season-long seven-match winning streak (March 8-April 5), which included a 4-0 start to league play.
This marks the second straight year Cadua has won at least 20 contests and she currently ranks 11th in school history with 61 career victories.
Cadua and the sixth-seeded Aztecs (11-12, 3-5 MWC) return to the courts on Thursday, April 24, when they square off against No. 3 seed New Mexico in the quarterfinal round of the MWC championships at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT.
