AZUSA, Calif. - The San Diego State duo of Kristin Olafsdottir and Shana Watson completed the first four events of the Mt. SAC Heptathlon on Wednesday at Azusa Pacific University. Olafsdottir currently finds herself in 11th place with 3,062 points, while Watson sits in 14th after earning 2,973 points. The heptathlon is the first of the season for both SDSU juniors.
To start the day, the Aztec pair began with the 100-meter hurdles and both put up solid numbers. Olafsdottir completed the event in 14.49 seconds, which was a season best and the eighth-best time in the 18-person field, while Watson logged a personal record with a time of 14.97 (15th).
In the high jump, Olafsdottir cleared 5 feet, 3.75 inches, to rack up 759 points as a result of finishing in a tie for 10th. Watson, who is competing in just her second career heptathlon, jumped a personal-best 5-0.25 (t-16th).
Later in the shot put, Watson established a personal record with a 10th-place toss of 36-10.25, while Olafsdottir came through with a season-best performance of 35-1.75 (14th).
In the final event of the day, Watson ran a season-best 200-meter dash in 25.27 seconds to finish in fourth and Olafsdottir logged her fastest 200 of the outdoor campaign with a time of 25.78 to come in ninth.
The SDSU tandem will wrap up the Mt. SAC Heptathlon tomorrow in Azusa, Calif., while Kristin Glen will be the lone Aztec to compete in a singular track and field event at the Mt. SAC Relays. The junior is set to race in the 5,000-meter run slated for 7:35 p.m. PT at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.
