SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team (11-12 overall) concluded its regular season with a 7-0 win over the University of San Diego on Tuesday evening. In their final match at the Aztec Tennis Center, seniors Eliska Krausova and Sisse Nielsen lifted SDSU to its fourth straight victory as they both won their respective singles and doubles contests.
The Toreros started the day with the advantage in doubles action when Tammy Kevey and Justine Perl handed Esther Cadua and Kathryn Kitts their first loss as a duo. But Nielsen and Holly Bagshaw quickly evened the playing field with an 8-5 triumph over Helene Lindstrand and Alexandra Demidova at the No. 2 spot. In the final match to finish, Krausova and Julia Trunk clinched the doubles point for the Aztecs by edging Monica Wiesner and Carla Tamborini, 8-6, at the top of the ladder.
In singles play, Nielsen cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Perl at the No. 6 position before Cadua put away Demidova, 6-1, 6-0, on court four to give the Scarlet and Black a 3-0 lead. At No. 2, Trunk stormed back from a first set loss to pin a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 defeat on Lindstrand, securing the match for SDSU.
Milana Yusupov tacked on another point for the Aztecs as she also fought back from a one-set deficit for a 0-6, 6-4, 4-3 victory on court five. Bagshaw then finished off Wiesener, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 before Krausova outlasted Tamborini, 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1, in the third slot to complete the sweep for SDSU.
With their individual triumphs, Krausova now ranks fifth on the SDSU all-time charts with 70 career singles victories, while Nielsen is tied for ninth in the record books with 63 career doubles wins.
San Diego State will now prepare for the Mountain West Conference championships, which will be held in Forth Worth, Texas, from April 23-26.
