SAN DIEGO -

Brigham Young 1, No. 18/21 San Diego State 0 (9 innings)

The No. 18/21 San Diego State softball team fell to Brigham Young, 1-0, in nine innings Saturday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. It was the third consecutive loss for the Aztecs (30-13, 3-3 Mountain West Conference) and second straight extra-inning setback.

SDSU received another strong pitching effort from senior Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) (19-10). Ross, who was named the MWC Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday for the league-leading sixth time this season, pitched all nine innings and surrendered one run on nine hits. Only two were extra-base hits, including Angeline Quiocho's solo homer to lead off the ninth inning, while five were infield singles. On the day, Ross struck out 10 Cougars (29-14, 6-2 MWC) without issuing a walk. Ross has now pitched 30 1/3 innings without giving up a walk.

Once again, however, the problem was the San Diego State offense. The Aztecs managed just five hits over nine innings against Brigham Young's Christina Trice (12-5). Trice also gave up one walk and struck out nine.

Sophomore Brittany Knudsen (San Diego, Calif./Escondido HS), junior Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS), senior Megan McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.), freshman Jessica Camello (Temecula, Calif.) and freshman Jen Wisneski (Riverside, Calif.) each singled for SDSU.

San Diego State will look to regroup when it begins a nine-game road trip against San Diego at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
