SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The second novice eight boat came up with an 11.54-second victory to lead the San Diego State crew team against UC Davis Sunday morning at the Port of Sacramento in Northern California. It was the lone victory of the day for the Aztecs, who picked up a pair of wins against Sacramento State on Saturday.

In the second novice eight race, SDSU raced to a time of 7 minutes, 12.19 seconds, outdistancing UC Davis `A' (7:24.13) and UC Davis `B' (8:46.51). The time was over a 12-second improvement of last year's time of 7:24.20.

In other novice action, the San Diego State novice eight boat suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the Aggies. UC Davis won the two-boat race in 6:55.88, just seconds ahead of the Aztecs (6:59.91). However, the 6:55.88 clocking is the boat's fastest time over the past three trips to UC Davis.

UC Davis also defeated SDSU in all three varsity races, including a 6:33.64-6:49.19 decision in the varsity eight race and a 6:57.03-7:02.06 advantage in the second varsity eight event.

In the varsity four race, the Aztecs finished second of three boats with a 7:57.01 clocking. The Aggies' `A' boat won in 7:30.96, while their `B' boat was third in 8:12.53.

San Diego State will be back in the water this weekend when they compete in the San Diego Crew Classic.
