San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg (Encinitas, Calif.) fired a 3-under-par 141 on Monday to lead the Aztec men's golf team during the first two rounds of the 20th annual Oregon Duck Invitational in Creswell, Ore. Playing in its third event in as many weeks, SDSU finds itself perched atop the team standings after carding a combined 5-over 581, opening up a five-stroke lead over Pacific (+10) at the 7,093-yard, par-72 Emerald Valley Golf Club. Meanwhile, host school Oregon (+14), UC Davis (+16) and Arkansas (+17) round out the top five.

Goldberg had his putter working on Monday, tying for the tournament lead with nine birdies on the day. Following a 1-under 71 over the first 18 holes, the Aztec senior maintained his consistent play during the afternoon, posting a 2-under 70 for his 15th outing at or below par in 16 starts this spring. With his performance, Goldberg trails Pacific's T.J. Bordeaux by just five shots on the individual leaderboard heading into Tuesday's final round.

Freshman Johan Carlsson was also able to shave a stroke off his scorecard between the first two rounds. After opening with a 74, the Gothenburg, Sweden, native came back with a 73 to finish the day in a seven-way tie for ninth place at 3-over 147. Sitting one shot in back of Carlsson is junior David Palm (Landvetter, Sweden), who returned to the clubhouse in a tie for the 16th position at 4-over 148 after notching identical rounds of 74.

Meanwhile, senior Chad Moscovic (Stockton, Calif.) and freshman Matt Hoffenberg (Simi Valley, Calif.) split SDSU's final two counted scores on Monday. Moscovic regrouped after a dreary 80 over the first 18 holes, logging an even-par 72 during the afternoon to tie for 37th at 8-over 152. Hoffenberg suffered the opposite fate, however, as an opening-round 73 was offset by a 77, which knocked him from the sixth spot into a tie for 28th at 6-over 150.

The Oregon Duck Invitational concludes on Tuesday with final-round action as the Aztecs are scheduled to tee off with golfers from Pacific and Oregon beginning at 8 a.m. PDT.
