SAN DIEGO - Four San Diego State student-athletes have been selected as Breitbard Stars of the Month, the San Diego Hall of Champions announced Monday. Junior Anna Gonzales (water polo), seniors Garett Green (baseball) and Christina Ross (softball), and freshman Billy White (men's basketball) were all recognized for their efforts during the month of February.

Gonzales, a utility player, was named co-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week on Feb. 12, after leading the Aztecs to a 5-0 start and their first UC San Diego Triton Invitational title. The Fresno, Calif., native scored 12 goals, while shooting at an impressive .545 clip in the two-day tournament.

Green, an infielder who hails from Anaheim Hills, Calif., earned both national and Mountain West Conference player of the week honors, as the Aztecs climbed into the national rankings in late February. In the season's first three games against the University of San Diego, Green batted .615 with two doubles, one triple, two home runs, eight runs scored and seven RBI.

Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) was tabbed the MWC pitcher of the week on Feb. 19, as she guided SDSU to its first-ever Campbell/Cartier Classic title with a 4-0 record and a 0.58 ERA. The two-time all-league selection and 2006 MWC Pitcher of the Year was honored again the following week, after striking out a then season-high 11 batters in a 2-1 upset over defending national champion University of Arizona.

White, a forward from Las Vegas, Nev., was named the MWC player of the week (Feb. 25) for averaging 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 blocked shots in wins over Wyoming and Brigham Young. With the award, White became the first freshman in the league's nine-year history to be honored twice in the same season.

The amateur Stars of the Month represent the sports of baseball, basketball, water polo and softball, and are chosen by the awards selection committee. Gonzales, Green, Ross and White, along with all of the other selections throughout the 2008 calendar year, will be honored at the 63rd annual Salute to the Champions dinner on a date to be announced in late February of 2009.
