COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State freshman closer Addison Reed has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance in SDSU's conference-opening series vs. BYU. Reed becomes the second Aztec hurler to garner the award in the first four weeks of the season after Stephen Strasburg captured the honor on Feb. 25.

Reed, from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., recorded a win and a save in two appearances in San Diego State's three-game sweep over Brigham Young.

In the opening game against BYU, he came on in relief in the bottom of the 11th inning of a tied game with two runners on, to record a strikeout and end the threat. He pitched the final 3.1 innings of the contest, allowing only two base runners, while striking out four and walking none.

The following night, he came on in the ninth inning to retire the side in order to record a save (his third of the year) in the Aztecs' 6-5 victory over the Cougars.

San Diego State is scheduled to continue home action Monday evening (Mar. 17) when it hosts Southern Utah at 6:00 p.m. (PDT) at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
