SAN DIEGO - The No. 23/25 San Diego State softball team overcame three errors by recording a season-high tying 12 hits in an 8-2 victory over Iowa State Monday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The game, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, wrapped up a 4-1 weekend for the Aztecs (23-9), including victories over No. 5/5 Texas A&M and perennial power Cal State Fullerton.

Senior Megan McDonald (Glendale, Ariz.) led the way for SDSU with a 2-for-3 performance to go along with two RBI and a run scored, while junior Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS) added two doubles and an RBI. Junior Tonye McCorkle (Santa Ana Heights, Calif.) (2-for-4, run, RBI) and sophomore Brittany Knudsen (2-for-5, run) also added two hits for San Diego State, which recorded double-figures in hits for the eighth time this season.

Freshman Brooke Petty (San Diego, Calif./Vista HS) (5-0) remained unbeaten after allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings. She struck out three and did not allow a walk for her fourth complete game of the season.

The Cyclones (19-8) jumped on the scoreboard first after the Aztecs stranded runners on second and third to open the game. Iowa State loaded the bases with no outs on an infield single, fielder's choice and a single to left field. After allowing a run to get across on a fielder's choice putout at third, Petty kept SDSU out of further trouble by getting Jackie Beatty to ground into a double play turned by junior third baseman Christine Kulick (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and Floros at first.

San Diego State responded in the second when McDonald singled to left and was replaced by sophomore Stefanie Quichocho-Rosario (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS). Freshman Samantha Beasley (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) moved Quichocho-Rosario up a base on a sacrifice bunt with Kulick on deck. Kulick then singled up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.

The Aztecs took the lead in the third after Floros' double put a runner in scoring position. Two batters later, sophomore Katy Erickson (Tustin, Calif.), who replaced Floros on second base, scored on a sacrifice fly by McDonald, putting SDSU up, 2-1.

Courtney Wray tied the game for Iowa State when she homered over the right field wall, her first of the season.

San Diego State put the game out of reach, however, with a four-run fourth and two more runs in the seventh. Wells, McCorkle, Floros and McDonald each drove in a run in the fourth, while redshirt junior Dani Sidoti (Tucson, Ariz.) and McDonald each scored on Cyclone fielding errors in the seventh to account for the runs.

The Aztecs play host to San Diego at 6 p.m. Tuesday, before traveling to Fullerton, Calif., for the prestigious Judy Garman Classic this weekend.
