2008 Phillips 66 MWC Championship Bracket in PDF Format
For the second straight year, the San Diego State women's basketball team will open the 2008 Phillips 66 Mountain West Conference Championships with a quarterfinal game against Wyoming, beginning at 10 p.m. PDT on Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Aztecs, who are 16-12 overall, earned the tournament's No. 6 seed after finishing in a tie for fifth place in the final regular season standings, the team's best-ever performance in the league's nine-year history. SDSU tied with Brigham Young with identical 7-9 records, but the Cougars garnered the fifth seed as a result of their victory over Wyoming earlier this season.
San Diego State and Wyoming met for the first time in MWC championship history a year ago, as the Cowgirls won in a defensive battle, 56-44. Wyoming, which is 24-5 overall and finished 12-4 in conference play, claimed both games between the two sides earlier this season and is currently receiving the 26th-most votes in both national polls.
The winner of Wednesday's SDSU-Wyoming game will face the winner of the TCU-Air Force contest on Friday at 2:30 p.m. PDT in the second of two women's semifinals.
All games except the championship will be carried live on The Mtn. The two semifinals will also be shown on tape delay on CSTV, while the championship game will be broadcast live on Versus. The Aztecs' game with the Cowgirls will be televised locally on Channel 4 San Diego, while Xtra Sports 1360 AM will have the game live on the radio from Las Vegas.
