Aztec Quick Hits
- After a 5-1 weekend, SDSU is now ranked No. 17 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, up from No. 20 the previous week, and No. 21 in the USA Today/NFCA poll. Both are the highest rankings in the program's 32-year history.
- SDSU is off to a 17-5 start to begin the 2008 campaign, its start to a season in school history. The last time the Aztecs had 15 wins 22 games into the season was 2006, when they finished 34-15 with their best record in school history. San Diego State made it all the way to the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, before falling to host UCLA.
- The Aztecs' Erin Floros (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS) and Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif./Univ. of Kansas) were named the Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. Floros had a team-high 10 RBI over the six games, while Ross was 3-1 with a 0.89 ERA. It was the second straight week SDSU swept the weekly awards and third consecutive accolade for Ross.
- San Diego State continues to play and do well against the best teams in the nation. SDSU is currently 10-5 against 2007 NCAA tournament teams and 2-1 versus 2007 Women's College World Series squads.
- Through 22 games, the SDSU pitching staff is 17-5 with a league-low 0.89 team ERA, despite arguably playing the toughest competition of any Mountain West school. The trio of Ross (10-4, 0.64 ERA), and freshmen Brooke Petty (4-0, 1.88 ERA) and Samantha Beasley (3-1, 1.56 ERA) has a combined eight shutouts, including five against 2007 NCAA tournament teams.
- Tamani Wells, Tonye McCorkle and Brittany Knudsen have started every game in the outfield for SDSU, and have combined to bat .348 with 46 runs scored, 10 doubles, 34 RBI, 26 walks and 16 stolen bases.
