LONG BEACH, Calif. - No. 37 Long Beach State proved to be too much for the 50th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team as the Aztecs fell, 7-0, at El Dorado Park on Saturday afternoon.
SDSU, which has now lost three straight matches to LBSU, dropped to 4-2 on the year while the 49ers improved to 3-3.
The Scarlet and Black were unable to get any kind of momentum going in doubles action as they fell in all three contests. Esther Cadua and Julia Trunk dropped an 8-3 decision to Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton, snapping a four-match win streak for the Aztec duo. Long Beach State went on to clinch the doubles point on court 2 with Jessica Weeks and Stephanie Jeanes getting past Eliska Krausova and Holly Bagshaw, 8-2.
SDSU continued to struggle in singles as 61st-ranked Trunk, who was fighting through an injury, ended up suffering a straight-set loss to Grady. After Krausova fell 6-2, 6-2, the 49ers clinched the match at the No. 2 spot with Bengson earning the 6-3, 6-0 victory over Bagshaw.
With the match already decided, junior Milana Yusupov fought back to force a tiebreaker against Weeks at the No. 5 position, but she eventually fell, 7-6, 3-6, 10-5.
The Aztecs will return to the courts with a pair of matches next week, as SDSU will head to No. 17 Pepperdine for a 1:30 p.m. PT match on Wednesday, before hosting eighth-ranked USC on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT.
