SAN DIEGO -
SDSU Basketball
Weekly News Conference
Aztec Athletics Center
Head Coach Steve Fisher
On senior center Chris Lamb:
"Saturday will be our last home game of the regular season. Chris is one of our graduating seniors and he has been invaluable to this program. He has represented himself and San Diego State in a fashion we can all be proud of."
On the importance of heading into the conference tournament with some momentum:
"We would very much like to win our last home game for a whole host of reasons, not just because it's Senior Night. But that adds to it. We have 18 wins. There's no magic about 20, but it sounds good. We had won two in a row and played well in three straight before losing at UNLV, which is a very tough place to play. So we want to be full steam ahead as we're heading into the conference tournament. But you can't win two in row without winning the first one, and our job is to get this first one (against Colorado State). We still have tournament aspirations. So in order to do that, we need to win and Saturday's game is important for us."
On positioning for a good seed in the upcoming conference tournament:
"I think when you start worrying a whole lot about that, you are worrying about the wrong thing. Play, win and play. If we do that, then everything else falls into place if we play well. That will give us a chance to win. So we're not worried about playing UNLV in the first game or the last game. We're hoping that we go and play three games."
On pursuing a sixth year for senior guard Matt Thomas:
"All medical redshirts are handled after the season is over, so that remains to be seen, which is why he is going to be honored on Saturday night."
Senior center Chris Lamb
On his time at San Diego State:
"I am very excited about Saturday being Senior Night. Just being a part of San Diego State Aztec basketball has been such a great thrill, playing with guys like Brandon Heath, Marcus Slaughter, Mohamed Abukar and now Lorrenzo Wade. Those guys are all big-time players and just being with them has taught me a lot both on and off the court."
On the possibility of returning next year:
"Coach (Fisher) and I kind of had a discussion about it and we decided that this was the right way to go."
On what he will take with him from Aztec basketball following graduation:
"There are so many things. Coach has just filled my mind with great ideas and great sayings. He always comes up with a quote for the day. Every single one of those you could use in your own life every day."
On playing Colorado State for Senior Night:
"I used to watch them when I went to their team camp in high school, so it'll be fun having my last game against Colorado State."
