The San Diego State men's golf team shot a sring-low 13-under-par 275 on Friday to finish in fourth place at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The Aztecs recorded the second-best team score of the day en route to a combined 29-under 835 for the tournament, which was held at the 6,917-yard, par-72 Leilehua Golf Course. Auburn captured the team title at 44-under 820, comfortably ahead of Texas A&M (-33) and UNLV (-32), while SDSU and SMU (-23) rounded out the top five.

Individually, the Scarlet and Black was led by senior Aaron Goldberg, who fired a collegiate-best 7-under 65 during the third round to jump 23 places into a tie for seventh at 10-under 206. With his effort, the Encinitas, Calif., product walked off the course with his lowest score in relation to par as an Aztec and tied three other golfers for the low round of the tournament. Freshman Johan Carlsson, who held a share of the lead after Thursday's second round, dropped into a tie with Goldberg after carding an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes. Despite the stumble, the Gothenburg, Sweden, native still posted his lowest combined total in relation to par as a collegian.

Meanwhile, fellow classmate Matt Hoffenberg continued his climb up the leaderboard, duplicating his second-round score of 3-under 69 on Friday to finish in a seven-way tie for 10th place at 8-under 208. With his performance, the Simi Valley, Calif., product registered a collegiate-best score in relation to par and cracked the top 10 for the second time in a 54-hole event this season. Junior David Palm (Landvetter, Sweden) also showed improvement on the final day of competition, vaulting 16 spots into a tie for 50th after matching Hoffenberg's 69 to finish in red figures for the tournament at 1-under 215.

California's Stephen Hale carded a 15-under 201 for the week to claim medalist honors, holding off UTEP's Herbert Day (-13) and a hard-charging Bronson Burgoon (-13) of Texas A&M by two strokes. A total of 53 golfers in 110-player field completed the tournament below par, while 25 competitors fired rounds in the 60s on Friday.

San Diego State will return to action in two weeks when it travels to the Central Valley to compete in the Fresno State Lexus Classic, March 10-11, at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
